Taking our basic donut to the next level, how about adding a little holiday magic and turning them into peppermint beauties! Candy canes and peppermint are flavours that I absolutely enjoy about the holidays.
LET'S GET SEWING

Print out the free donut pattern PDF and cut out the pattern pieces. Pin the pattern pieces onto felt to cut out the felt pieces as shown below.
Begin by sewing the longer sides of the red peppermint pieces to the white icing using red thread and blanket stitches.
TIP: Use small dots of hot glue to help keep the felt pieces in place while stitching.
Stack the icing layer on top of the two brown/beige donut pieces and using only red thread, stitch the center part of the red icing pieces to the donut. Stitch through all the layers.
Change your thread colour to white and stitch only the white part of the icing to the donut pieces.
To turn your donut into an ornament, glue a piece of ribbon to the inside back piece of the donut before stitching the outer edge closed.
Stitch the outer edge of your donut together and after about 2 inches in, insert stuffing into the stitched section of your donut. Stuffing small sections at a time helps to evenly distribute the stuffing all the way around the donut.

TIP: For tips on how to neatly close your stuffed project, refer to the stitching steps shown for our Easy Little Ghost felt sewing project for beginners.
